History of the People’s Party of Texas

The People’s Party of Texas was founded in 2021 by a group of Texas activists, anarchists, and political malcontents. Its founding members had various degrees of experience in political parties, activist organizations, and social justice movements. Though our political leanings were varied (and still are), we were all committed to seeing an anti-capitalist movement established in Texas outside the ineffectual, hierarchical, and reformist traps set by mainstream political organizations. We had grown tired of incessant “leftist infighting”, cults of personality, financial black holes, and liberal reformist gaslighting.

Our founding convention took place in 2022 in Mansfield, Texas. During this convention, our bylaws were written and approved, the first State Executive Committee was elected, and the party was formally registered with the Texas Secretary of State. We also registered as a non-profit political party (527) at that time, allowing us to raise funds and have the option to run political candidates if we chose to do so. Our first circles were established at this convention, including the Core circle, Communications circle, Finance circle, and Political Outreach circle.

2023 saw us grow with new members in additional locations in Texas including Austin, Denton, Houston, and Tyler. Our second convention was held at the Rainbow Ranch retreat in Groesbeck, Texas, the first in what has become an annual tradition! During this convention, our bylaws were updated, and a new slate of State Executive Committee members were elected.

In 2024, we saw the establishment of two new circle, the Education circle, and the Health & Wellness circle. We held our third annual convention at the Rainbow Ranch, and are well on our way into delivering our first batch of cadre training for new members.
