Statement on the support of public ownership of rail transportation

Facing the reality of the deterioration of our infrastructure, and in line with the Principles of Unity and Foundational Principles of the People’s Party of Texas, we do hereby take the position in support of public ownership of the rail system in the United States of America. The majority of Americans (and Texans) believe in increasing our public rail system capacity and infrastructure for a multitude of reasons. Every community deserves transportation that is sustainable, safe, accessible, reliable, affordable, and flexible. 

Many Texans dream of a day when we will be able to enjoy the benefits publicly-owned transportation and mobility will bring to our communities. Benefits of public transportation include connecting people to employment, education, healthcare, and each other. Public transit reduces pollution, conserves energy, fights traffic congestion, and powers local economies.

Ultimately, public transportation will be of tremendous benefit to everyone, not just those who ride the rail every day. We need to progress in these matters to not only keep up with the world but to reach our potential. We, the People, should and will support nothing less than full ownership of the rail by the People.
